Builder Design Work Group (BDWG) began in 1996 as a General Construction company serving Western North Carolina. Later that same year, a residential remodeling job presented them with an opportunity to pour a concrete countertop for a new kitchen. Owner and founder Andy McDaniel was eager to respond to this challenge, having already experimented with concrete for countertops and taken a particular interest in concrete ; even writing a paper on it’s alternative uses while still in college. That first kitchen countertop, although crude by today’s standards, was a success. As word of mouth spread, clients who wanted concrete countertops began to look to BDWG for help with their projects. By 2000, McDaniel’s company was beginning to work exclusively in the realm of concrete. Later that same year, BDWG opened it’s first concrete showroom, a small log cabin in Foscoe, N.C. As interest in concrete’s alternative uses has grown, so has BDWG. A full line of products is being produced by BDWG Concrete Studios that can now be viewed on line as well as at their downtown Boone showroom.
Owner and founder of BDWG, Andy McDaniel has a background of over 18 years in construction and nearly a decade of experience working with concrete. The natural beauty of the forests, wildlife, and streams of the southern Appalachians provide a constant inspiration for his work with concrete.
